Letter from the Director of Admissions

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in The Gillen Brewer School! The Admissions Office is excited to work with you to see if Gillen Brewer is a good fit for your child.

The Gillen Brewer School is committed to educating and supporting our students to become confident, independent and engaged learners. We place a particular emphasis on partnering with our families in order to provide a nurturing and supportive environment. We strive for children to feel accepted and to develop the necessary skills to overcome challenges.

Throughout my 13 years at Gillen Brewer, formerly as a therapist and currently as the Director of Admissions, I have developed extensive knowledge in assessment and placement of children with special needs. As part of the admissions process, we spend significant time assessing your child’s specific skills, both from the paperwork you submit and from observing and interacting with your child throughout the interview process. Gillen Brewer students are a diverse group of children with an array of strengths and challenges. We work extremely hard to determine if the school is able to meet each student's needs and serve them well. In creating classes each year, we carefully review what each student offers, ensuring that we have an appropriate mix of students to complement each other’s learning styles and build a solid foundation for lifelong learning and independence.

We recognize that the process of finding the appropriate school for your child is often an overwhelming one. Our Admissions team welcomes your calls and inquiries as you navigate this process. To find out more information about applying to Gillen Brewer or visiting our school, please contact the Admissions Office via email or at (212) 831-3667 ext. 206.

We look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,

Joe Surak
Director of Admissions
