The Gillen Brewer School is a family-oriented
early childhood program designed to meet the diverse needs of children
with developmental, language, learning and emotional disabilities.
Our Pre-School program serves children 2.8 - 5 years old who are
classified as Pre-School students with a disability. Our School-Age
Program serves children 5-10 years old who are classified by NYC Department of Education as either
speech impaired, emotionally disturbed, other health impaired, or learning disabled.
Gillen Brewer provides an intensive,
12-month school program which includes a full academic program,
speech therapy, occupational therapy, play therapy/counseling, physical education, music and art. Pre-School classrooms have a
student-teacher ratio of 8:1:1; School-Age classrooms have a student-teacher
ratio of 10:1:1. Gillen Brewer is a
New York State approved non-public school with students funded through
the New York City Department of Education.

Application Process
Open Houses 2011-2012
Please call Ida Sacconi at (212) 831-3667 x200 after September 15, 2011 to schedule an open house.
*Given the content and length of our tour, it is not appropriate for children to attend an open house.
All the following dates are Fridays, 9:00-10:30 and are for Parents/Guardians only.

All open houses for parents will be for both preschool and school age.
Preschool:
- A completed intake form (Download Adobe Reader)
- Current reports and records, where applicable, from therapists,
teachers, schools and doctors
- A written evaluation from a developmental pediatrician or neuropsychologist
is recommended
- Current IEP, if applicable
Once the above information has been received, you will be contacted
by the school. At that time, we will let you know the status of
your child's application. If appropriate, a time will be arranged
to have your child come to Gillen Brewer
for a visit. Please note that Gillen Brewer does not charge an application fee.
School-Age:
- A completed application (Download Adobe Reader)
- Current reports and records from child's school, therapists
and specialists
- A current psychoeducational or neuropsychological evaluation
- Current IEP, if applicable
Once this information has been received, you will be contacted
by the school. At that time, we will let you know the status of
your child's application. If appropriate, the next step in the process would be
for your child to come to Gillen Brewer
for a visit. Please note that Gillen Brewer does not charge an application fee.
Occasionally, an opening occurs during the school year. In that
case, the process follows the same format and a school tour will
be arranged for the parents.
