Middle School
The Gillen Brewer Middle School is designed to serve students aged 11 to 14 years old and features integrated academics and therapies.
Each classroom (8-10 students) is staffed by a highly trained team of 2 teachers and 3 therapists who differentiate material to meet the varied learning needs of our students. Grounded in the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards and other curricula/therapy programs designed for children with language-based learning disabilities, students have literacy and math in groups of 2-4 and are taught as a whole group for their other classes.
Other highlights of the Gillen Brewer Middle School are:
- Interdisciplinary social studies, music and art
- My Project: the weekly opportunity to work with a teacher/therapist on a project of the student’s choosing
- City School: bi-weekly trips off campus allowing students to enhance both their academic and independent living skills
My son joined Gillen Brewer in 2017 and it has been a remarkable journey thus far. We are grateful for the level of attention and support the school gives our son and family. The teachers and therapists truly go above and beyond to cater to every child’s individual needs. We love the school and look forward to the new middle school in 2024.
